New owner - Vancouver Island

Postby FZ-Dave » Sat Nov 11, 2017 2:52 02

Hello from Canada. I've been a Yamaha guy since I started riding in 1992. I've owned several Yamaha motorcycles and currently own two great motorcycles and now a TMAX as well. I've been a fan ever since the second generation model came out and one came up that was too good to pass up. It's a 2009 in black and yellow with only 11,000 kms. I plan on doing some mods over the next year and embarrassing some "real" bikes just like I used to on my WR250R. Fun stuff. My other two bikes are a 2015 FZ-09 and a 2008 FZ-1. Yamaha for life. :bounce:

Well, Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply to my into posting. Nice that you have a modest collection of bikes. I would if I had the cash and space... plus having the time to ride them all is also at a premium.

In my recent existential crisis of scooter > motorcycle > scooter transitions, I rode a 2017 FJ-09. What a lovely bike! Never been on a triple before, but now I understand the appeal. A great engine. But too much bike for me and my actual / honest riding.

My inlaws live in Sidney, and in the sunny seasons I like to do a few island loops; the island roads are so much more fun than the lower mainland grids. Might be a beer in it for you if you are within riding distance.... next summer, of course.

Lots of 2009 TMax's on this and MaxiScoots so you have company. FJ forum was nice too.

ATB,

Yamaha's 847cc triple is pretty much my favorite engine, I love my FZ-09. I work at a dealership and get to ride everything so that says a lot about the CP3 engine.
I'm a middle age, newly single guy so having 3 bikes is ok.......I think.
I agree about the roads, the island does have a few gooders ! I've been riding them a long time though so the thrill comes from being a bit of a hooligan out away from town.

It's interesting to me reading posts of experienced motorcycle riders that got into maxi scooters.

Most motorcycle guys I talk to could care less about them. Oh well. 8)

I am new to the motorcycle world. Maybe next year, I will get a clutch bike just to see what it's all about.

I've ridden just about everything since I started street riding in 1992, I rode dirt before that. I'm a very immature 41 year old that loves speed and performance. That being said, I also get a kick out of pushing slower machines to the limits and having a laugh. Obviously there's no comparison to "real" bikes but it's still fun to flog a TMAX ! By the way, any dude that rides a "real" bike and talks crap about maxi-scooters is likely just being ignorant. I've schooled more dudes on 750's and 1000's than I can remember, while riding lesser bikes ( WR250R and girlfriends Ninja 300 to name a couple ) so don't sweat it when people talk you down.
