"Slightly higher seat" You will need a ladder to climb up on the silly thing. Besides the fact that it is a Yamaha that's a major reason not to buy it.
Higher center of gravity, your head too far out in the slipstream & likely too hard to flatfoot the bike. On the plus side they did add the 12 v outlet.

Why are Yamaha XMAX service intervals 6k miles in Europe and 4k miles in the USA? I looked at both owners manuals and notice the difference.

Is it Kms or Mls for Europe? That would be a difference.

That's great Al. Given the performance and M.P.G.s, if it's comfortable for me, it might be my next scooter.

That's an interesting app. I will have to check it out. I'm on Fuelly and I use that to check "real-world" mpg on bikes to see what folks are really getting. Interestingly, I average higher mpg on my Majesty than most. 90+% of my commuting is on hwys, so I know that is a big factor. I have actually gotten 64 mpg on it before. If I flog the snot outta it, 50 mpg or a bit less.

One high or low figure could simply be how full the tank was. I've had one over 60/mpg & a few slightly under 50/mpg. For the most part I could count on 54/mpg but for some reason the last few fill ups have dropped to about 50/mpg. I've just changed the air filters & I hope that may make a difference. I suspect really dirty air filters might restrict the amount of air available & cause a rich mixture. Of course if the mixture is computer controlled it might only result in a loss of power.

There IS another option out there: The KYMCO Xciting 400i. Now you get a Maxi Scooter (think completely modernized Majesty...) for the price of a mid-sized scoot. Really? The X-max 300 (292cc) is $5,599. The Kymco Xciting 400i is $5,999.

Think about it. For only $400 (the cost of a good helmet) you get:

1.) 399cc vs 292cc, = 29% more Horsepower, 35% more Torque, 20-25 mph more top end.
2.) 2 Year warranty vs 1 Year warranty
3.) Radial-mounted twin calipers vs single scoot-style caliper
4.) Twin 280mm front rotors vs one little 267mm rotor
5.) 4.21" of rear travel vs 3.1". That's 36% more travel to smooth things out, now matched to the front end travel
6.) Adjustable brake levers vs NON-adjustable
7.) Much better wind protection
8.) Wider 150/70-14 rear tire, vs 140/70-14
9.) Much more legroom

Any negatives?

Seat is 1/2" taller. That's 2%. Big deal.
Bike is 54 lbs heavier. Again, big deal. More stable on the freeway and in crosswinds, and will outbrake any maxi-scooter made on the planet.

Think about it. 8)

The negative is finding a dealer. Over the years there have been three near me & they are all long gone. I test rode the 500 & the 250 several years ago at the motorcycle show in Long Beach & was impressed with both. I also test rode an electric motorcycle & noticed how hard it was to get through the crowd of pedestrians that were wandering around. It was kind of neat to reverse the throttle & back up.
In fact I put off buying a scooter for quite some time waiting for the 500 they were promising. I finally gave up & bought my 2005 Majesty.

I just looked up the Kymco scooters & discovered they have a 300 cc. $4000 vrs $6000 for the 400 cc. That's plus delivery, set-up, added dealer mark-up, tax title, license, paperwork fees & whatever else they can think of. There are a couple of dealers with-in fifty miles of me. I just might consider the 300 IF I can find a good deal on a new prior year model. At least it's not a ^%$#@*& Yamaha.
I just noticed I had posted my impressions of the 250 & 500 test rides under "other scooters" back in 2007.

I picked up a 2018 Xmax. It is a fun scoot! At 6'3" tall i also bought the Givi tall windshield. Made it so much better to ride. The key fob i could live without, but seems to work fine. I love the under seat space! My 05 Majesty had to have my modular helmet just right or the seat wouldnt latch. The Xmax is peppier than the Majesty but top end is not as fast. The speedo is very optomistic! It feels taller than the Majesty to me. Overall it is more fun to ride IMO. The big USA front turn signals look horrible, but already ordered the japan factory ones to swap out.

I'd be interested to hear how it compares to the morphous and MP3?

Good video. To add my own $.02: Based on PERSONAL experience, I am far more confident the XMAX will NOT fall apart shortly after the warranty expires. I can definitely NOT say the same thing about the BMW.
