No XMAX for the US in 2020??

Postby buellboy9 » Thu Sep 12, 2019 9:32 09

Just looking at Yamaha's scooter page. They list the SMAX for 2020, but not the XMAX. That would be a damned shame... :(

2020 is available.

You beat me to it. Looks like the only difference is color (Shadow Gray) which doesn't seem all that different from 2019. Why do they think Americans don't like bright colors???

Always bugs me that they list prices that are thousands of Dollars less than what you will actually have to pay. At least here in the Demokratik People's Republik of Kalifornia (DPRK) they will add shipping, set-up, added dealer mark-up, document fee & of course sales tax & license. The MSRP doesn't give you a clue as to the final price. GRRRRRRRRR

It may help to ask for an out-the-door price whenever you have dealings with a dealer. They'll usually only advertise an OTD price when the have new old stock (NOS) or a used bike they want to sell quickly.

OTD in the US is usually comprised of MSRP plus:
  • Destination (shipping) charges from the distributor
  • Titling and registration fees
  • Taxes
  • Document preparation fees
  • Vehicle prep: uncrating, assembly, pre-delivery inspection, fluids
Of these, there's not a lot of wiggle room in anything except the last two: doc and prep. They may lower these costs but they stiill have to pay someone to prepare paperwork and stand in line at your DMV, and they still have to pay a mechanic to prep and inspect the bike. The tax and regulatory fees are real, as is freight, and margins on MSRP are minimal.
