And so it begins ....

Have started the disassembly process of my newly acquired 2014 TMax 530, in preparation for an extensive restoration.

The previous owner must have left it out in the weather, so it looks rather tired, and nothing like a scoot that I would own.

Removing the bodywork has been somewhat of a problem, for despite having a workshop manual, the disassembly sequence was not obvious. Also, due to the cold weather, I was careful to avoid cracking the brittle plastic (it would have been easier in the summer). Anyway, have managed to successfully removed the parts to be repainted, and will now start on refurbishing the exposed metal parts. Have ordered front and rear suspension from Malossi, a new variator, LED lighting kit, and various coloured (blue) bits to finish off the job, perhaps in about 2-3 months ready to ride in the warmer weathe.

Yep, doing that too.
Upgrading the suspension with a Matris rear mono-shock with remote reservoir, and Matris front fork kits.

Have just received the Malossi Variator kit, and will install when I figure out how to remove the 30mm nut.

Lights are being upgraded all round with LED sets from LedPerf, new tyres, new brake pads, and anything else which will save me from pulling off panels in the next 10,000 miles.

New paint scheme will be a Royal Metallic Blue - some of the painted panels are in need of refurbishing, so I figured I would do them all in a fresher colour.

I don't want to seem pedantic, but its 29mm ... not 30.

I bought a impact socket from Supercheap and ended up using a borrowed rattle gun to get it off (and my bunnings one to put it back on.

Did you read that blog post of mine on that? It explains everything I did.

Good luck on the rebuild.

The Tmax is one PITA to work on. You have body parts all over the place just to do a normal service. Be sure to keep each panels screws, bolts, and push pins in a bag and attach it to the panel.

It also helps to "pile" the panels in the order that you took them off. Rubber floor mats on the end.

While it's apart you can upgrade the front struts easily! It's the bike's biggest weak spot...

You can go Hyperpro variable-rate springs:

Can't be more convenient to do than now, while it's all apart... 8)
