I was desperate to get my hands on a 2020 or 21 euro TMAX but basically i was told that unless i wanted to go to jail and lose a lot of money that wasn't going to happen. The 2021 Kymco AK 550 looks like a suitable replacement, anybody here have any familiarity with it? Online reviews are pretty good-lots of power and brake, ABS, LEDs, good storage. Price is about 9500 new.
My only concern is the ability of my local dealer's service department to handle it. A twin EFI beast is way different than jacking around with a 125cc Buddy. Then again, none of the local Yamaha dealers knew what to do with the TMAX either.
There are very few scooters of any size available they say due to the virus. What they do have they will not deal on. They want FULL price PLUS shipping, set-up, added dealer markup & massive "document fees". I suspect it will be quite some time before I will be able to buy a new scooter. Since I am 80 years old it is possible I may never get one. This is almost the only time in the last 66 years that I have been without a two wheeled motor vehicle.
I would like to buy a Kymco but probably something in the 250 or a little larger range. When I bought my Majesty in 2005 I had been waiting for the Kymco 500 they were promising but I finally gave up waiting. A year or two later I did take a test ride on both a 500 & a 250 at the Long Beach motorcycle show & was favorably impressed with both.
Still looking, i just had a gorgeous 2015 slip through my fingers. Lots of customer bodywork, akropovic pipe. Too slow on the draw. And still considering the AK as well even if it is new.
I really wanted to test ride the AK550. However, I am disappointed in the final drive. It seems few modern maxiscooters offer covered chain... only BMW?
I am sore with honda for not offering a covered chain in either the x-adv or the forza 750. They had it in the silverwing. what gives?
what's wrong with belt?
the AK550 has belt final drive like the newer Tmax.
Silverwing has the CVT belt in the swingarm.
I like the enclose chain drive on the 3rd gen Tmax (which BMW copied)
but belt drive is lighter.
