After spending $500+ on a Tom Simmons Original seat for my Maj, tar strips on the road still jolt me bad. I just now thought of why not try to get some type of air bladder to sit on, that would actually bounce and provide a little Cadillac smoothing effect. The thing is is that foam will always mash down, it will never truly absorb any shocks like a spring.

I went to Walmart and all they had were whoopi cushions and 20 inch child innertubes as pool toys. I think this idea would work wonders, but I can't find the right size/type.

Any ideas?

The airhawk is expensive, but is worth it -- it's very well made and will provide a slightly higher seating position (which can help the long-legged), a softer seat for the butt bones (crucial for anyone having or wanting to prevent lower back problems), and a softer ride for the scooter.

I too, wouldn't ride without an Airhawk.

Others like the beads, too.

If you really want to try the whoppie cushion (for a buck or two), get one and fill it to what you think is the desired volume. Pinch or fold over the opening on the filler and try sitting on it. (Obviously the bike is on the centre stand) Adjust the volume to the level you desire and seal the tube. This can be done several ways: 1) place some silicon deep in the filler tube (using a nozzle like th e ones on a caulking gun); 2) fold the filler over several times and staple it; 3) let dry for several DAYS. Try your new whoopie-bladder!

Whilst it may not last for a substantial period of time, it should give you an idea whether the investment in the airhawk would be worth it.

 Another idea is to try a Perineal Cushion for about $15.

I also ride horses and you can get a gel seat which has straps to attach to a horse saddle and can be adapted to a cycle seat for much cheaper. I know they also have air seats, but not sure of the price. Positive they are not $147.

I got the medium airhawk -- over on the Burgman site, it's clear some get the medium and some get the large.

The medium works great -- I've taken it into the office on occassion and definitely when I use my 1977 Chevy LUV pickup.

Go to your local fleet farm store and buy a 8" INNER TUBE FOR $7.OO and put a very small amount of air in it (just enough to get you off the seat) and you can ride forever. Cheap and long lasting. Came up with this one years back, early 70's, when I used to ride Sportsters.
