Cutting Foam To Lower Seat?

2202 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Blexcroid
Has anyone tried taking the cover off the seat and cutting away some of the foam to lower the seat. If so how did it work? Is the foam glued to the seat?
I don't mind the seat height on solid pavement. But on loose gravel I would like to get my feet flat on the ground.
Thanks Charlie.

some people have had their seats profesionally re-trimmed, in order to lower the height with good results.

i have not heard of anyone undertaking the job them self.

I had my seat lowered "professionally" by a gent who specialised in adjusting motorcycle seats. Glad I didn't try to do it myself, as even with the foam removed, he had a difficult time stretching the original vinyl to recover it.
Right behind the 'hump' on the seat, the foam is 4-5 inches thick! That gave him plenty of foam to cut away, thus lowering me in the saddle so I could get my feet flat on the ground. I am planning to send my seatpan off to have the entire seat rebuilt by Oregon Aero. They have developed a foam for use in aircraft and race car seats and will rebuild motorcycle seats. Hope this helps!
