I owned a Burgman 650 until I was taken out by a car a month ago. (For details, see link) I'm trying to decide what to get next and the Majesty is on my short list. One of the modifications that I'd made to my Burgman was a Clearview medium windscreen. I got it because I wanted to keep the air off my hands, but I definitely wanted to look over the windscreen. (My hands are very sensitive to the cold due to a medical condition.) If I decide to get a Majesty, does anybody have any suggestions? What are the touring screens like? Is there anything available like a laminar lip for the sides of the windshield?

My Givi windshield comes down almost to the end of the turn signals and deflects alot of air, I purchased it at Twisted Throttle around 135.00 easy to swap out. Rob

In their wisdom, Clearview has decided not to offer a Majesty screen yet.

Of the options I am aware of, Givi is the only one to provide hand protection. Yamaha and Cee Bailey's do not, AFAIK.

You're right, Cross, the Yamaha touring screen looks like it has hand protection. I wonder why I had never noticed that before, even when I was looking for it.

Oh, and welcome to the board Cross and Analytical!

Thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking for weeks, but never posted yet. (By the way Ron, I love your smuggler trunk...I keep showing those pics to my partner and chanting "Christmas Christmas" I think she has more then gotten my hint. lol)

As for the windcreens...according to the Yamaha site, the touring one is 4.5" taller then the stock and if I remember right, the Givi is about the same. But from what I have read, the Givi's isn't angled back as much as the Yamaha touring shield so the Givi seems higher.

I have found several hand protectors at local motorcycle shops. I am still looking for exactly what I want (at the price I want to pay) but there are a lot of choises. Look for ones made for dirt bikes.
I'm wondering how hard it would be to mount dirt bike protectors with the plastic covers on the Majesty bars. Would there be much cutting/Dremeling of the handelbar covers in order to mount them? Can it be done so it doesn't look like a 'hack job'?

There are several styles that should fit with no modifications at all.
The one type I am looking for fits over the end of the hand grip & is secured by the screw through the brake lever. If I can find that in the right color & at the right price that will be my first choise.

I had the standard windscreen and upgraded to the Touring shield, and finally got the givi from twist and throttle. The givi has a much better bend at the top which shoots the wind over the top of my head, I am 5'8", and look over the top of the shield by about 5 Inches. Also the givi has a sorta bevel on each side at the bottom, which keeps the air off your hands. the touring shield looks as if it has hand protection however it actually meats the cowling pretty low and does not protect very well. Ride safe all.

Analytical,

I had the Givi with the Laminar Lip on it and really liked it. I have the stock screen on now with the Lip all the way to the top. Since it is summer now I decided to put the stock screen back on. I'm also getting about 4-5 mpg better gas milage now this way. In the winter I will put the Givi back on. The Givi seems to offer good protection to my hands since I have rode in the rain and it didn't seem that my gloves got too wet. But then again my hands aren't sensitive either so maybe I just don't feel it. I'm 6' tall and it seems that the Givi just isn't high enough for me to keep the wind out of my face. I really wish it was about 3-4" taller. Good luck with what you finally get. Just out of curiosity "why are you thinking of a Majesty? I hear most people with Burgman 650's say that the Burgman is so much smoother and nicer than the Majesty.

Good luck,

Jeff

Hurkmaj,
Thanks so much for a direct, first-person comparison of the Yamaha and Givi touring shields. How much better would you say the Givi is than the Yam at protecting your hands? Do either keep the wind off your fingertips?
I know it gets cold in Wisconsin. How cold before you stop riding? What else do you have for keeping your hands and fingertips warm?

apologize for the delay. The givi is much better at keeping the wind off you fingers. It has more agressive curves around the hand area than the stock. I can ride comfortable until it's about 50, then it gets nippy. However it's not the fingers that gets so cold as it is my legs.
