Few Majesty questions

2164 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  JeremyBurton
Recently bought a 2005 Majesty and curious about a few things?

Anyone have a link to purchase the proper JIS tools to remove screws to replace oil filters? It is my understanding that I'll need a long extension for one of the screws.

The bolts for oil change? Size? Can regular sockets fit without stripping or is JIS needed for that as well?

And lastly...I'm thinking of adjusting handlebars back so I have more clearance. Anyone have any tips before I rip everything apart.

Thanks to all for any assist. Lots of good info on this forum.

Hi, blitzed, and welcome to the Majesty crowd. I have a 2007 Majesty 400, and it's a fun ride.

Here's a link to Amazon for #2 JIS bits:
https://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08-05 ... 46&sr=8-6#

FYI, JIS, "Japanese Industrial Standard," bits and screwdrivers appear almost identical to a similar sized Philips screwdriver, but the point/tip of JIS is slightly flattened and "mates-up" with the screwhead better.

Concerning wrenches & sockets, JIS doesn't apply. A 10mm wrench or socket, for example, works fine; however, I recommend that you use 6-point sockets rather than 12-point to avoid slippage and "rounding off" whatever bolt or nut you're removing.

Best of luck! If you have other questions, ask away!
I have this long screwdriver, which works well for all the JIS screws I need to reach for filter changes. However, the first change was difficult, and a couple of screws were completely seized and needed to be drilled out. Removal of one of these things actually broke the plastic bracket it had been factory torqued into.
After you get the screws out REPLACE them with Allen heads. The oil filter cover is no problem except this is a Yamaha so they had to make one of the screws a bit hard to get to. (It's a Yamaha thing, they go out of their way to make everything harder than necessary.) i.e. battery location, checking rear tire pressure, checking and adding oil & of course the &^%$* air filter. Not to mention the front headlight bulbs or resetting the belt change icon. It's not just the Majesty, I also had similar issues with a 750 Virago. They do it just for the fun of it.
And it's not just Yamaha...*heavy sighhh*

When I worked as an auto mechanic, we joked (semi-bitterly) that to achieve membership in the Society of Automotive Engineers, one had to be the red-haired step child of an abusive auto mechanic stepfather...and looking to design "revenge"
Ahhh, but it helps you send your kids to college.
@ gruntled...

Well, the only "kids" I have are four-legged, furry ones, and I am fully retired, so college isn't a concern...lol.

Biggest issue right now is how soon my contactor finishes the home repairs after a house fire...hoping for a move-back date of July 31st.
