Maj vs Burg...more maintenance? And SHORT inseems??

Considering Majesty but a friend called me today with another offer. He has another friend with an '04 Berg400 w/15,000 miles. He said it is in great condition, and the guy is asking $4000 for the Burg.

Not being a mechanic, I am aware that I will probably be changing my oil. But I don't want to have to worry about doing other maintenance myself. So...I get the impression that maintenance is gonna cost more on the Burg400.

Is that true?

PLUS...short inseem. With my tennis-shoes, I was "toeing it" on the Majesty in the showroom. I am sure it would be different with my riding boots, thicker sole, etc. I didn't mind it in the showroom because the Maj seemed so well balanced. My thought is to take the Maj seat to an upolstry shop and have it cut down an inch or so and narrowed a bit towards the top.

Has anyone had any upolstry work like that done to the seat of a Maj? Any short inseemers unhappy about your purchase?

And whatever I get, it will not be brand new. I will look for a 2004, '05 or '06.

I'm 5 feet 6 with 30 inseam. No problem backing up the bike at all on a flat surface. I've been on tippy toe all my riding life with whatever I have bought, from a ZX9 with a 32.5 height. Trust me once you and the ride have some time together you get used to everything.

You can have a shop shave the seat some if that helps. I do not like that route for me because it changes the rider fit as far as handlebars feel and reach goes.

I highly suggest the Majesty over the Burgman, the valve check on the Burgman is mind blowing short. In fact I am still surprised people even buy the Burgman for that simple fact. The Burgman never crossed my mind when I found out that part. If you must have a Burgman wait till 07 when I hear there is total redesign and that problem is taken care of.

I got His Majesty's "throne" reworked (no jokes, please!) and it lowered my feet substantially. Right behind the 'hump' on the very front of the seat there are 3+ inches of foam.-- a lot more than is needed for comfort (even on my tender bootie)! Since my bike is down for "servicing" I will be sending it in to Oregon Aero to have them completely rework the seat. I own several of their seat cushions and they are very comfortable. I also have seen their work on motorcycle seats and it is top notch. The foam they use is very compressible and will allow you to sit lower on the seat without 'bottoming out' sitting lower means more foot on the ground. You can check a local upholstery shop (most do motorcycles) but they may not have the super compressible foam. It doesn't hurt to call around.
I was considering both the Majesty and the Burgman. I had a Suzuki mechanic show me what tuperware had to be removed to adjust the valves and change the air and CVT filters on the Burgman. It is a major job and the valves and air filters have to checked frequently. I also did not like the small wheels and tires on the Burgman and the rear mud guard looks bad. If you want a Burgman I also recommend waiting until the 2007 model. I bought a 2005 Majesty (the faster blue model) and I love it.

2005 Majesty
We all know the blue Majesty's might be fast, but they require way more maintenance than the charcoal gray Maj's!
I haven't seen a blue one pass me yet
Thats probably because the blue ones are already in front of you... :D
Actually it would be nice to have any color around me ... I have seen other Majesty's riding around but dont know any of them and I guess they are not on this forum.
calldon,

Read the section specifically for the Burgman 400 at http://burgmanusa.com/ and you might make up your own mind rather quickly that the Majesty is the king for now.
