If you can affort it; this is a good combination of leather (waterproofed) and textile. You do get what you pay for, but what would you want to be wearing when the cager pulls out in front of you?

I wish my summer jacket had a bit more armor along the outer edges than it does.

Of all the "non-leather" jackets I tried on (including the ones mentioned here) this is the one I would want to go sliding down the superslab at speed in; if I have too.

Make sure you get something to wear now.

Even the lighter weights will give you better protection than just jeans, and a non-scooter jacket.

There are a lot of closeout specials going on now. Visit your local dealer to see what they have.

Choosing a helmet is a little more involved.
Since not everyone has the same head shape, helmets come in several shapes.
I wear a slightly narrow, and find the Scorpion EXO-700 to be a good fit.
Some helmets are both SNELL and DOT approved some are not.
Weight is, to me a very big concern.
Then there are features, ventilation, visor clarity, removable liner....

They do a good job on reviewing a lot of products including helmets.

webBikeWorld does some of the best reviews of helmets in just about every criteria you can think of. One of the surprising things they've found is some of the really inexpensive helmets have come out as nice, or nicer, than some that cost twice as much. So it would pay for you to sit down for awhile and read through their reviews. I think you'll be a lot happier in the end.

Been reading up on the reviews, and I'm really liking the Akuma helmets. Especially with the red LEDs in the back. Would be nice to have those for extra visibility from behind for other drivers.
