Hi
I seem to get the revs (upto 7500) but lack power on up hills.
I marked the Sheave with a black marker and it seems the belt does not go to the top of the sheave - see pic.- it seems to stop about 1/2" short from the rim
What is normal travel?

Thanks minimac - appreciate your input.
I have pulled the variator to pieces to check the assembly (no ridge) as well as the clutch. The rollers look good - slight wear but no flat spots. Clutch is good. Thinking of going to 14g rollers (maybe Dr Pulley)- currently OEM 15g - any thoughts?
One thing I should have done before I stripped it, was a compression test. I'll do that when it is back together if the problem persists.

I may be expecting too much from a 400cc scooter. Prior to this one I have not ridden a small bike like this.
Anyway, I checked the compression 126 PSI - this is very low according to the service manual, but the manual does not say how to disengage the decompression valve on starting, so I guess the reading could be misleading. I poured oil in the cylinder and no improvement in compression. (so not the rings!). I checked the valve lash - all within spec. Now I am replacing the weights (OEM 15g) and stripping the clutch which seems a bit rusted but the pads are within spec.
I am just over 200 lbs and live in a hilly area - so Roland may be right.
I bought the bike as I had read so much about what good little bikes they are, but for now Iam dissapointed. Ill see after the CVT work I do.

The saga continues....
I have replaced the weights (OEM 15g) and rebuilt the clutch, belt within spec, replaced spark plug the diaphragm as well. The bike idles nicely, and climbes easily to 7500 - 8000 revs on the stand.
However, when riding it has good power at take off (clutch working well) but it seems to stick at about 4200 revs - even on flat ground. Going down hill the speed increases but the revs dont go much above 4600 rpm.
Any ideas??

The motor runs very smoothly but the power when riding is still very poor.
I used the dIAG mode to see the throttle angle. My readings were 15 when closed, and 93 when fully open.
The normal values are Closed 15 - 16 and fully open 97 - 102. Seems it is not opening fully?
Would this make a significant difference in performance? If so, can you adjust the angle manually on the throttle body?
Or do I just need a new sensor?
