Sometimes, there is a cop around when you need one

So my wife Debbie is riding her Maj in the car pool lane on Hwy 99 through Sacramento, CA. Traffic is pretty heavy but moving right along, and she is trying to keep a good interval between her and the car in front of her. A giant Dodge pickup truck decides she isn't going fast enough and, even though there are cars in the lane in front of her, the way to get her to go faster is to taligate about four feet behind her. Debbie said she could see the grill of the truck in her mirror, like giant teeth. She kept looking right, trying to find a spot to merge outta this clown's way, but to no avail since the cars are so close together. This goes on for about ten minutes and she lets the interval in front of her get bigger like they tell you in class. Finally, traffic thins enough so she can get over right, and she hears the truck behind her floor his engine and roar past her. The next exit is hers, and she takes it and comes to a halt at the stop light at the bottom of the exit ramp. Immediately, a Highway Patrol black-and-white pulls up next to her, and the officer rolls down his window. The conversation goes something like this.

CHP: Good morning.
Debbie: Uh, Good morning.
CHP: Do you mind me asking, are you a new rider?
Debbie: Yes, I am. I just got my license a few weeks ago, and this is my first bike.
CHP: We saw you on the freeway back there, with that white truck tailgating you.
Debbie: I kept trying to get over, but there was no safe space!
CHP: We could see you trying. You did exactly the right thing. When someone acts like that, you just have to do your best to get out of their way.
Debbie: I tried really hard.
CHP: You did fine. You may be interested to know my partner in his car has pulled over the white truck, and he will be cited for speeding and following too closely.
Debbie: That's great!
CHP: Thought you'd like to know. Keep riding like that. Have a nice day.

As soon as she got into work, Debbie called me to gleefully relate the story. Sometimes, ya just gotta love the CHP.

Morons and jerks. I hope their insurance gets doubled.
Please tell your wife GOOD JOB!!!
:wav:

Glad the police were at the right place at the right time.
Have you noticed it's the white ones. I recently came to the realization that the drivers of WHITE trucks and SUV's are the rudest, especially in the tailgating dept.

Renews my faith in the cops.

Thanks, and I'll relay your good wishes.

And, yeah, what is it about white SUVs? They're ticked off that all the cool colors were taken, and now they're mad at the world?
Glad that she was not hurt. I have noticed that All Suv Drivers think that they own the Road. Even 18 wheelers are a nice groop as long as you respect their size.

White SUVs think they're refrigerators and their drivers left their brains in the freezer!

Here in Florida it is the BLACK ones that tailgate and speed on A1A, the single lane (in each direction) road on the beach. I even warn new riders in our group to beware of the BLACK pickup trucks.

Bravo to your wife and the CHP

I may have seen this jerk on the road too, the story sounds too deja vu. My wife uses 99 north from Elk Grove too. She's been lucky no reports of tailgating yet.

Stay Safe,
That is awesome! I wish I could get a cop to follow me around ... tickets left and right to the idiots who think their bumpers rule the road. Its good to hear a story like that.
