Tie down anchor fastener size mystery

I have a 2008 Majesty 400. I'm trying to anchor some eye bolts or D hooks to the four thread bosses on the underside of the grab rail for a bungee net or ROK straps.

AI told me 8 M 1.25 pitch bolts would work. It doesn't. Neither do 7, 6, 5 or 4 M. The 5 wants to go in but stops threading after a few turns. I am thinking it's some non standard thread pitch.

I don't want a top case.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Any ideas or suggestions?

The existing holes are not tapped very deep, or may just needed a clean up. Get the right sized tap to match the thread in whatever size hook or loop you want to use. I forget what size I used (it was years ago), but might have been 1/4-20 s.a.e. That gave me a large field of choices to use for anchoring bungies.

Turns out a 5 M .08 x 8mm fit well enough to secure some D rings each with a washer and blue thread locker. 10 mm might have worked but I didn't want to risk getting the wrong size yet again. I think these will function for my around town purposes. My Iron Butt says are over.
